Empowering women and their partners for a more positive and rewarding birth and postpartum experience!
I am a certified Birth Doula, certified Childbirth Educator (prenatal class teacher) with CAPPA, postpartum doula, bereavement doula, and trained in assisting women who have experienced trauma and sexual abuse. I have trained both in Canada and New Zealand, and have attended several births in both countries.
I am the mother of 3 children and grandmother of 10. I enjoy family time, continuing education, teaching, gardening, traveling, meeting new people, and quilting.
As both an instructor and a birth doula, I can show you proven focus and relaxation techniques, and how to work with your contractions and your body. I am happy to explain to you and your partner what is happening physically and physiologically, so you have greater comfort and understanding through your labor experience. I offer you consistent support through your labor for as long and as much as you like. This is your baby, your birth experience, and I would be pleased to use my skills to help you have the birth you want, remembering that both yours and baby’s safety are paramount. I would be pleased to meet with you and show you what I do, and explain a little more in depth why hiring a doula is a good choice for you, your partner, and your child. I can show you and your coach coping skills to deal with labour contractions which can lead to smoother birthing. I would also be very interested in discussing your birth plans and help you to prioritize what is important to you. My passion and my dream are that every woman will have the birth that leaves her feeling empowered and in control.
After the birth, many parents are released from the hospital within 24 hours of their baby’s birth. For first time parents, they may arrive home with their new baby and then say, “now what?” That’s where the postpartum doula comes in. Postpartum doulas can help smooth the way and help you with the transition to new parenthood. We can throw together a quick meal, do a bit of tidying, do a load of laundry, care for your children so you can sleep or have a shower, give you info about childcare or breastfeeding, and give you information and resources you may require or request. We also offer a non-judgmental listening ear for new parents when needed. Postpartum doulas can help start you off on the right foot in your new role as parents.
I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and teaching new people in the different places I have lived. I can offer private prenatal classes to you and your partner at your convenience in your home.
